FAQ

What is the secret of Orthodontics?

The secret of orthodontics is that teeth move in response to force.  Examples are:

  • braces and archwires
  • headgears
  • rubber bands
  • Herbst Hinge
  • coil springs
  • aligners
  • kid sucking thumb (negative force)

Why do braces work so well?

They are glued to the teeth 24/7/365.

When is the best age to get an Orthodontic opinion?

When the orthodontist needs a new car, a bigger house, or the kids are going to college.   With my two sons, I was anxious to take a panarex x-ray on them to see if they had missing teeth.  So as soon as they were old enough to be still, age 6-7, and let the machine circle their head, we took one.  Everything was developing.  I also like to take a lot of pictures to track development.  See special picture offer.

What is the difference between an Orthodontist and a Dentist?

An Orthodontist is a dentist  who has had specialty training in Orthodontics.  The specialty programs at the major universities last 2-3 years.  In California, a general dentist can offer to do your orthodontics for you, and that is your decision.  They are not suppose to say that they are an orthodontist unless they have had specialty training.  When I look at the wild, wild web, I find anything goes and my advice is ask questions and educate yourself.  I would be happy to give you my opinion.
